1860 census shows Henry and family living in Swan Township, Warren Co, IL. They lived there until at least 1868. The 1870 census shows them in Prairie City Township, MdDonough Co, IL. The 1880 census for Prairie City Township shows his family but he is not listed with them. Henry Thomas has not be located elsewhere until 1900. The 1900 census shows he was living with Angeline and her husband James E. Bennett in Keowee Township, Garfield Co, OK. He had an extended visit with his son Francis Marion Park and with grandchildren Francis Edward and Stella Taylor at White Cloud, KS in 1908. He was located at the time of the 1910 census back in Oklahoma living with James Bennett and family in Doyle Township, Cadda Co.
Lola Taylor Turner recalls that during his visit with her family in 1908 that “Grandaddy Tom” was quite good at swinging a cane and that he and his son Francis Marion didn’t get along well. Lola recalls “he caused no end of trouble” and that he departed when Lola’s father Edward Taylor bought a train ticket for Farmington, Illinois and sent Henry Thomas on his way.4 |
